Many great saints such as Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Aurobindo, and others have held the view that education should lead to an integrated and harmonious evolution of an individual. But this basic objective of education has remained largely unrealized in our country. Various Commissions and Committees constituted for reviewing the education system in the country did recognize this fact and all of them have unequivocally highlighted the need to make education a forceful tool for cultivation of high social and moral values.

A modest effort to impart school education in conformity with the above objectives has been initiated by a group of dedicated educationists through Vidya Niket (An Abode of Education). This school at Purani Chhavni, Gwalior has been established under the aegis of Swami Shri Akhandananda Saraswati Shiksha Samiti. Borrowing the words of Gurudev Ravindra Nath Tagore , it is a small lamp that not only dispels darkness in its vicinity but also has a potential to light many more similar lamps. This kind of school education will certainly make an effective contribution to the mission of a balanced economic, social and cultural development of the people.

The following mantra from Katha Upnishad is the epicentre of our methodology.

Translation

May He protect both of us (Teacher and Student). May He nourish both of us. May we both acquire the capacity (to study and understand the scriptures). May our study be brilliant. May we not argue with each other. Om peace, peace, peace.
